Valley Motorsports in Volga, SD is family-owned and operated by husband and wife team Wendell and Gina Karlstad. Since start up in 2001, every customer is treated like they are part of the family.
There's no need for area riders to travel to the big cities for quality service and parts. That's because customers in Brookings and surrounding areas can have their street bikes, dirt bikes and ATVs repaired close to home. Services range from minor repairs to major overhauls, tires, exhaust and much more. Valley Motorsports has everything the big city shops have, both in parts and in the types of services offered.
Wendell entered the motorcycle industry in 1989. In 1991 Wendell and Gina moved to Rapid City where for the next nine years, he divided his time between working as a line mechanic at Black Hills PowerSports and Black Hills Harley Davidson.
Since moving back to Volga, Wendell continued for many years to work for BH Harley Davidson during the Sturgis Rally. Wendell still continues to work at several major bike events with Vance & Hines exhaust company. For Wendell, working during these major events is like going to school. It gives him the opportunity to work with other mechanics and factory service reps from all over the U.S.
In 2001, Wendell, Gina and their two children moved back to their home town of Volga, SD. Shortly after, Valley Motorsports was started in their garage at home. It started as a part-time, after-hours business and eventually grew too big for his garage. In 2008, Wendell and Gina decided to go full-time to accomodate their growing customer base. Since opening in 2008, Valley Motorsports has expanded its space for a larger service department, and retail space.
Valley Motorsports is open Monday through Friday 9 am - 5 pm.
